Interview Preparation

It is vital to ensure that you prepare for any format of interview. Interviews, whether with the recruitment agency or client, are all about establishing a positive impression with regard to your application.

We have set out some initial questions to work through to assist you in this preparation.

There are 5 main areas relating to mental preparation:

Knowledge about yourself

Make sure you can give at least one positive example (preferably more) for each of the skills and attributes the employer is seeking. Ask yourself these questions:
  • Why do I want this job?
  • Why should this organisation select me?
  • What are my ambitions?
  • What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  • What key skills have I gained from my work-related activities?
Knowledge about the job itself

Always try and obtain a copy of a job description or key accountabilities relating to the role you are applying for. Ask yourself:

  • What does the job involve?
  • What skills will I need?
  • What skills/experience do I have that are directly relevant to the job description?
  • How will this role affect my career?
  • What else do I want to know about the job? For example: organisation structure, operating budget etc.

Knowledge about the company and sector

All recruiters and employers will expect you to display some knowledge and understanding of the business, its size and the sector in which it operates. The internet means there is no excuse for not knowing about the company, its products and services. Ask yourself:

  • What do I know about this company?
  • What attracts me to this company?
  • What relevant work experience do I have?
  • What experience do I have of relevant technical skills/techniques?
Being up to date with developments in the sector are also important.
  • How is the industry changing or developing?
  • How are organisations responding Also be aware of current affairs/ relevant commercial news for the region and sector.

Knowledge about the destination

Spend time on our website researching the Destination section to learn more about the history, schooling, education, hospitals etc. Ask yourself

  • What do I know about this country?
  • How will it impact on the members of my family?
  • Do I feel comfortable with the security?
  • What attracts me to moving there?
  • What significant changes will be made to our lifestyle as a result of moving there?
